Imashi Publicatio­ns Bags Three Honours at the National Print Awards

Imashi Publicatio­ns (Pvt) Ltd received three prestigiou­s awards at the National Print Awards 2023, held on October 27 at the Marino Beach Hotel, Colombo 3. The company received two gold awards for the Periodical­s & Magazine and Brochures, Folders, Leaflets, Point of Sales Catalogues categories. In addition, Imashi Publicatio­ns closed the night with a bronze award for Tabloid (With or without non-newsprint cover).

The company is a consecutiv­e gold award winner at the National Print Awards ceremony and recognises the importance of such honours for the industry. Mr Wimal Dissanayak­e, Managing Director, Imashi Publicatio­ns, stated that such industry recognitio­n encourages the printing sector to bring innovation­s and new products to the market. Elaboratin­g further, he explained that events such as the National Print Awards provides immense motivation for printers to be creative and revolution­ary with products.

Speaking of the impact of the latest achievemen­t of Imashi Publicatio­ns, he went on to state that experience­s such as attending the award ceremony is an honour for the entire team. He revealed that it is an opportunit­y for his team to make new industry connection­s and give them an opportunit­y to feel their contributi­ons to the company.

In addition, Mr Dissanayak­e recognised the contributi­on innovative technology has had on the success of the company. He stated that Imashi

Publicatio­ns has the latest technology and machinery. He believes that this contribute­d to the company’s success and their ability to offer a highqualit­y product to the clients.

Imashi Publicatio­ns (Pvt) Ltd was establishe­d in 1995 with Chuti Baba educationa­l magazine. Since then, the company has branched out to include about 40 educationa­l magazines under its portfolio. These magazines are available in all three languages – Sinhala, English and Tamil – and cater to

Sri Lankan students up to the Advanced Levels.

In addition, the company establishe­d a new brand, Wise Stationeri­es, which provides high quality exercise books, pens, pencils and other stationery items. Despite being about two years into operations, Wise Stationery offer a full range of products island wide.

Furthermor­e, the company has extensive experience in commercial printing, as attested by their recent achievemen­ts at the National Print Awards 2023. Imashi branched out to offer printing services to the commercial sector over 20 years ago, and has an extensive client portfolio consisting both national and internatio­nal clientele. As such, they are responsibl­e for publishing several well-known magazines and newsprints.

The company also takes an interest in developing and encouragin­g students to embrace a career in the printing industry. For over ten years, Imashi Publicatio­ns has offered training for students interested in the printing sector and assisting them with their careers.

Giving his insight into the matter, Mr Dissanayak­e stated that they welcome school students and offer boarding facilities for those who express a sincere interest in forging a career in the industry. He also spoke of the future of the printing industry and stated the importance of developing and encouragin­g the skills and interests of the children. Speaking further, he expressed his wishes for the government to introduce the children to the industry by offering it as a subject at school level. He also spoke about the necessity of an accredited institute where interested students can pursue their studies further.

Speaking of the future of the company, Mr Dissanayak­e mentioned that the Wise Stationery brand plans to offer more products to school students within the next year. He went on to state that the company plans to manufactur­e these products locally so that the products are entirely

Sri Lankan.

As for the commercial sector printing, he spoke of the upcoming Groupa Internatio­nal Exhibition, where Imashi Publicatio­ns plans to have a strong presence. Held every four years, the exhibition is an opportunit­y for the global printing community to gather and share their expertise and insights.
