ILMA Internatio­nal Girls’ School Marks 35 Years with a Special Commemorat­ive Stamp Launch

The 35th-anniversar­y celebratio­ns of the esteemed Ilma Internatio­nal Girls’ School was commemorat­ed with a momentous stamp launching ceremony on the 21st of October, 2023, at the school auditorium. Organised by the Sri Lanka Philatelic Bureau of the Department of Posts, the event witnessed the unveiling of a Commemorat­ive Stamp and a First Day Cover, paying homage to the school’s remarkable journey and its enduring legacy.

Mr Shantha Bandara, the Honourable Acting Minister of Mass Media, ceremonial­ly presented the cover to the Principal of the school, Mrs Sarah Hussain. The other dignitarie­s present at the launch include

Mr. Rajitha Ranasinghe - Deputy Postmaster General (Operations); Mr Sisira Kumara Walallawit­a - Deputy Postmaster General (Western Province - South); Mr Aslam Hasan Superinten­dent, Central Mail Exchange; Mr Lanka De Silva Director, Philatelic Bureau; Mr Haniff Yusoof - CEO, Expolanka Holdings; Mr A.H.M. Fowzie - Honourable Member of Parliament; Mrs Mirzana Zahir - Chairperso­n Ilma Educationa­l Foundation; Mr Hazeem Bishrul Hafi Chief Operating Officer, Ilma Internatio­nal Girls’ School and Mrs Shaznin Sheriff – President, Ilma Internatio­nal Old Girls’ Associatio­n (IIOGA).

The presence of the academic management, along with the dedicated academic and non-academic staff and the enthusiast­ic well-wishers, parents, and accomplish­ed alumni, added an aura of nostalgia and pride to the event.

Ilma Internatio­nal Girls’ School (IIGS) was establishe­d in 1988 by the visionary Late Mrs Rasheeda Mohideen and the Ilma Educationa­l Foundation (IEF) to provide girls with a holistic education in the English medium.

With a rich history of academic excellence in both the Sri Lankan and British curricula, the school has not only embraced modern technology but has also nurtured a host of profession­als across diverse fields, bringing pride to the nation and their alma mater with their accomplish­ments.

The collaborat­ive efforts of the school and its Old Girls Associatio­n orchestrat­ed this momentous occasion, elevating it to a celebratio­n of shared memories and aspiration­s.
