Peramune wins Nestomalt School Games marathon

D.A.D.G. Peramune of Vidyaraja Vidyalaya, Ratnapura, representi­ng Uva Province, claimed the 21km half marathon of the All-Island Schools Games 2023 held at Galle yesterday. Peramune clocked 1 hour 16 minutes and 22 seconds to finish the course of 21 kilometres, as he dominated the rest of the runners to claim the championsh­ip without much challenge.

S. Keeran of Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya, Kilinochch­i, from the Northern Province, was exactly one minute behind Peramune, as he finished second among over 300 runners who competed. Coming in at third was E.G. Lasitha Pradeep of Ukpitiya Maha Vidyalaya, from Uva Province, who clocked 1 hour 18 minutes and 13 seconds.

Others to follow the top three finishers were E.A. Hasindu Dhananjaya of Bandaranai­ke Central, Veyangoda (1.20:07), S. Kudiharshi­dan of Hindu National School, Matale (1.20:32), B. Sahirdan of Kalaimagal National School, Ratnapura (1.20:48), B. Abhishek of Diyabowaka­pura Vidyalaya (1.20:51), R.B. Randika Jasith of Walagampur­a Vidyalaya (1.21:06), K.N. Indura Dhananjaya of Wangiyapur­a National School (1.21:26) and R.M. Aravinda Ratnayake of Giranduruk­otte Central (1.22:10), who finished respective­ly after one another.

Nestlé Nestomalt partnered with the Ministry of Education to organise the All-Island School Games 2023 marathon event, which concluded successful­ly yesterday in Galle, marking the completion of an integral part of this year’s All-Island Schools Games. Over 300 runners from all nine provinces took part in a half marathon and a display marathon of 5km was held with 1400 participat­ing.

It gives us immense pleasure to work with the Ministry of Education to co-create a forum where the young athletes are given opportunit­y to kickstart their sporting career. We will continue on our journey of making a positive change in families and communitie­s across generation­s, by being a part of similar events for years to come,” said Ruwan Welikala, the Director of Nestlé Lanka’s Dairy.
