The Magic of ‘Dreamers’ A play by children for the entire family

-

Amusical theatre production “Dreamers” : Unwritten Pages, will be staged on Saturday December 2 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre at 3.30 PM and 7.00 PM.

A Whyteleafe Musical, this is a story about 10 children going on a journey, but this journey is unlike any other adventure that anyone has ever been on. With a cast of 50 children between the age 10 to 18, the musical is a first for many features.

While a musical of this scale has not been showcased in our island before, it is also special because it is a breakthrough, the first of many more to come.

Directed by the award winning

Director Nalaka Swarnathilake, who brought iconic creations such as ‘Dangamalla’, ‘Anne’, ‘Poth Gulli’, ‘Mama Wenama Malak’, to the Sri Lankan audience, this is a creation that can be enjoyed by both children and adult audience, together.

The script writing for this musical was done by a group of young writers Suween Dasanayake, Helitha Athukorala, Thanudi Kumaradasa, Raneesha Jayarathne, Heshitha Abeyrathne and Sithmi Wimaladasa, music is directed by Daushala Lekamwasam and music arrangement by Chinthaka Jayakody, this musical consists of music of many genres around the world. Choreography by Kasunika Abeywickrama, make up by

Rathnakumara Liyanawaduge and Chamodi Dayawansha and stage management is done by Madhumini Abeyrathne.

‘Despite the fact that the troupe of musicals is known for its popularity in the world, predominantly in the West, our island has not seen them being born and bred on its soil’said Nalaka Swarnthilaka who guided the children to make the production.

‘This project was started during the covid-19 lockdown much before the school decided to start online education. During the covid period we gave the opportunity for the children to develop the script and once the lockdown is lifted the six children who wrote the scripts came together and collaborated their works’ Swarnathilaka explained how the project was initiated.
