Saracens and Moratuwa meet in Tier ‘B’ final

The final of the SLC Tier ‘ B’ Limited Overs Tournament will take place on Tuesday between Saracens and Moratuwa Sports Club at the Thurstan College ground in Colombo. Both teams have played five games each, winning three while two games have ended without a decision. With similar records under their belts, both Saracens and Moratuwa SC will look at raking up their fourth win of the tournament, which will decide the winner.

Saracens will have the services of a good batting lineup, with three of their batters having turned out with supreme form during the first round of the competitio­n. Gavin Boteju, Dinitha Siriwardan­a and Kaushan Kulasooriy­a are among runs and are expected to continue their form in the vital game against Moratuwa SC.

“As the head coach of the team I’m proud and happy about the performanc­es so far. We had a good start from first match, chasing 240 odd runs, which gave us the boost to reach the finals. Our strength is the unity where we have been doing well from all three department­s. The President, management and the coaching stuff of the club have laid their fullest faith on us and we’re hope to play good and positive cricket on the final,” stated Dilshan Mendis, the Head Coach of Saracens.

On the other hand, Moratuwa SC, who has the similar outcomes as their opponents, too has players in the likes of Raveen Perera, Samitha Dilshan and Anuk de Alwis, who have managed to contribute to the team’s success in the tournament. The side has been progressin­g firmly under the watchful eyes of their Head Coach, the experience­d Pemlal Fernando.

“We are strong in all department­s and we have some talented players, who have the ability to adjust to face any kind of situation. The team spirit is very high and are willing to support each other led by our seasoned skipper Anuk de Alwis. It’s all about handling situations. All will depend on the track allocated to the final game. Boys are good fighters and I expect that both teams will play good cricket within the spirit of the game,” stated Fernando.

Saracens, led by Shenal de Silva, includes Dinitha Siriwardan­a, Kaushan Kulasooriy­a, Gavin Boteju, Samitha Ranga, Deshan Fernando, Hashan Chathurang­a, Thithira Wickramasi­nghe, Pasindu Pathum, Romesh Nallaperum­a, Tharindu Rajapakshe, Muditha Dissanayak­e, Muizz Naushan, Kasun Ekanayake, Naveen Gunawarden­e and Thanuga Palihawada­na. The team is ably guided by Head Coach Dilshan Mendis, his assistant Chinthaka Fernando and members of the coaching staff including Ayesh de Silva, Nuwan Devapriya and Lalith Karunanaya­ke.

Moratuwa SC, led by Anuk de Alwis, includes Samitha Dilshan, Sanesh Fernando, Anushka Perera, Chrishen Aponso, Nipun Peiris, Umayanga Suwaris, Yohan Perera, Sasika Perera, Lahiru Fernando, Sumalka Fernando, Kavindu Kularatne, Themiya Gunaratne, Kavishka Peiris and Raveen Perera.
