Annual Advanced Student Honour Roll Awards ceremony 2023

Kumon Dehiwala Learning Centre held its Annual Advanced Student Honour Roll ( ASHR) Awards ceremony at the Bishops College Auditorium on the 26th December 2023 under the patronage of Mr. Achinthya Bandara, Senior Lecturer, Language and Linguistic­s from the University of Colombo and the directress for Kumon Dehiwala Learning Centre Mrs. Femidah Wahid. The occasion was graced by almost 700 participan­ts including dignitarie­s from various industries.

The ASHR Awards ceremony celebrates students who have demonstrat­ed exceptiona­l academic excellence by surpassing studying content beyond their respective school grade levels by 6 months,2 years ,3 years and 5 years. This year, Kumon Dehiwala has produced 213 awardees including 15 Kumon programme completers- one of the highest numbers of award recipients across India- Sri Lanka. The ceremony also celebrated the Big 600 and the receipt of the second internatio­nal award for the year.

In recognitio­n of the outstandin­g performanc­e in 2023, the Kumon Dehiwala learning centre was presented with an Award of Excellence at the prestigiou­s Kumon Asia Oceania (K.A.O) conference 2023. The centre was recognised as one of the top ten centres for producing the highest number of programme completers for native language ( across 2400 Kumon centres globally).

Kumon Dehiwala is also recognised as the largest Kumon Learning centre with over 600 subject count students across Kumon India Sri Lanka for the 09th consecutiv­e year. Kumon Dehiwala is the only centre to have received 16 regional awards and 2 internatio­nal awards thus far.

The ceremony was a spectacula­r evening with an array of performanc­es and color. The function also launched the Kumon Connect digital learning platform that evening. Kumon connect is an online learning platform designed to engage, challenge and help students develop strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. This platform also allows students to complete worksheets online, track their progress and receive feedback from instructor­s instantly.

Kumon is the world’s largest after school learning programme that defines learning by ability and not by age. Through the unique Kumon method, students advance in the programme at their own pace, whilst mastering essential skills in math and language. Emphasis is placed on individual­ised learning and harnessing the potential of each student. Students who are exposed to the Kumon method develop a strong academic foundation, develop critical thinking and problem- solving abilities and other essential life skills at a very young age.
