Unbeaten Colombo South stamped their class when they beat Colombo North by 87 runs in the Prima Youth Under- 15 Super League final which was worked off in front of an appreciative crowd at the Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) ground. The day was not only marked by intense cricketing action but also by the impressive performance of Rehan Peiris from Royal College, who showcased his talent by scoring a magnificent century.

The MCA ground buzzed with excitement as the two Colombo based teams battled it out for the coveted title. Colombo South, known for its robust cricketing program and talented youngsters, put up a stellar performance with both bat and ball. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Colombo South set an imposing total of 256 for 8 in their 50 overs largely fueled by the exceptional innings of Rehan Peiris.

Royalist, Rehan batted with complete authority by scoring 129 runs off same number of deliveries with 5 boundaries and 10 huge sixes in his hurricane knock. He put on a valuable 120 runs for the second wicket with Lasiru Sandakan who stroked a well compiled 40. In the end Colombo South lost their wicket frequently.

Colombo North, taking lease of the wicket, were bowled out for 170 with only Sadeesha Silva scoring a brisk 47looking somewhat threatening but in the end it was all Colombo South with a magnificent win to end as the champions.

“I first thought about the best thing I could do if I got to bat first according to that day’s ground condition. I thought that batting 50 overs was the best thing. And my coach said the same thing. All coaching staff gave me a lot of advice to hit this 100. Also, I wanted to score this 100 because of my team. I was a little nervous when we lost a wicket at 11, but the one down batsman Sandakan helped me a lot and we built a 100 plus runs partnership and got 256 runs . and our bowlers bowled very well and we won the final. This is a foundation innings for my future,” speaking to media, Colombo South and Royalist, Rehan Peiris said.

Colombo South’s Rehan was aptly picked as the player of the final while Yasiru Lakshan of Galle was named the best batsman of the tournament. Himani Deshan of Colombo
