Gateway Colleges Celebrate Outstandin­g Academic Achievemen­ts

The celebratio­n of the academic achievemen­ts of students for the Year 2022-23 began with the Awards Day of Gateway College Colombo which was held at the BMICH Main Hall on the 18th of October. With Gateway now offering the Australian Certificat­e of Education as an alternativ­e to UK Advanced Level, Ms. Michaela Bensley, Chief Executive of the South Australian Certificat­e of Education (SACE) Board graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address she spoke of the importance of creating an ethos that celebrated the unique qualities of every student. The Edexcel Challenge Trophy, which is Gateway’s highest award for academics was jointly won by Anuk Ranaweera and Sachintha Basnayake.

Gateway College Negombo held their Awards Day on the 27th of

October at Jetwing Blue, Negombo and the Chief Guest was Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. In her speech, she combined her experience­s as an academic and scientist with the practical wisdom of motherhood which was a memorable takeaway for teachers and parents alike. At this event, Sihas Jayasuriya received the Edexcel Challenge Trophy of Gateway College Negombo.

This was followed by the combined Awards Day of Gateway Colleges Dehiwala and Ratmalana held at the Dehiwala School Auditorium on the 3rd of November. Senior Professor Chandrika Wijeyaratn­e, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo was the Chief Guest on this occasion. She highlighte­d the need to bring up future generation­s with a strong global outlook entwined with Sri Lankan values. The Edexcel Challenge Trophy of Gateway College Dehiwala was awarded to Dhivyakris­hnan Thriyapaka­n.

The celebratio­ns came to a conclusion with the Awards Day of Gateway College Kandy held on the 10th of November at the School Auditorium. At this grand event, the Chief Guest was Professor M.D. Lamawansa - Vice Chancellor/ Chair, Dept. of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya. He reflected on the way social media has taken over personal interactio­ns which are so vital for the growth of young minds and the need for parents to actively deal with this. The winner of the Edexcel Challenge Trophy was Dinidu Gamage.
