Bahrain national day celebratio­n organised by Sri Lanka Club Bahrain Alumni Group

Ex and current Bahrain residents met at the Jetwing Colombo Seven Hotel, Barnes Hall on December 16. The event was our second get-together, and coincided with the Bahrain National day.

The event was graced by about 50 participan­ts and the chief guest was U L M Jauhar - Actg Additional Secretary, Consular Affairs, Middle East and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The programme commenced at 10.45 am with the introducti­on of all participan­ts. The welcome speech was delivered by Sarath Goonatille­ke.

President of the Sri Lanka Club Bahrain Wasantha Kahaduwa delivered his address on today’s Bahrain.

The chief guest thanked the organisers and appreciate­d the participan­ts’ enthusiasm. He stressed the importance of the group becoming a recognised body, and expressed his support for its future endeavours.

Bahrain National Day was marked by a cake cutting ceremony by the chief guest with the Past Presidents of Sri Lanka Club present.

Past Presidents Visvanath Jayasekara and Ranjith de Silva spoke at the event.

The event was kept lively with the music provided by a two-piece band playing some golden oldies well throughout the day.

Some of the participan­ts displayed their talent by singing with the backing of the band and entertaine­d the floor. Some participan­ts danced to the music.

A mouth-watering buffet lunch was enjoyed by everyone present.

The group invites all overseas members to plan their next holiday to coincide with the grand event on December 16, 2024.
