Princess Anne concludes a power-packed visit

Princess Anne, acclaimed as the hardest working member of the British Royal family and Vice Admiral, Sir Timothy Laurence, left Sri Lanka early yesterday (Saturday) ending a three day visit.

They visited Colombo, Kandy, and Jaffna. On January 10, the Royal delegation was hosted by President Wickremesi­nghe for a dinner to mark the 75th anniversar­y of UK-Sri Lanka bilateral relations.

The next day the couple visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy where they were welcomed by the Acting Chief Custodian Mahinda Dela. The Princess offered a plate of jasmine flowers to the tooth relic and signed the Visitors’ Book.

On the last day of their visit the Princess Royale and Sir. Timothy visited the Jaffna Public Library. Here they were received by the Jaffna Municipal Council Commission­er, Thanabalas­ingham Jayaseelan and Chief Librarian of Jaffna Public Library, Anushiya Sivaharan.

The Princess heard how the Jaffna public library is a symbol of northern education and culture.

Earlier, as patron of Save the Children's Fund, Princess Anne also visited its office here.

During a visit to the British Council she was briefed on the ongoing work to build cultural and educationa­l relationsh­ips between Sri Lanka and

Britian. The Royal delegation also visited the Commonweal­th War cemetery at Jawatte where Princess Anne laid a wreath in memory of those who lost their lives in both World Wars.

Princess Anne also visited The Mission to Seafarers, of which she has served as president since 1984. She also attended a reception hosted by the British High Commission­er to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the U.K.

On the start of her three-day tour Princess Anne visited MAS Holdings facility in Katunayake accompanie­d by the British High Commission­er to Sri Lanka.
