Southern Province gears up for All-Island Open Badminton Championship

The Southern Province Badminton Association, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Badminton, announced that it commenced calling of applications for the Southern Province Open All-Island Badminton Championship, which will take place during the last week of January.

Scheduled to take place from January 28 to February 3, the championship promises a week filled with intense action at the District Badminton Sports Complex in Dadella, Galle and Ambalangoda. Interested players can submit their applications by January 15 to obtain a chance to participate in a range of competitions spanning Open, Senior and Junior categories. Junior competitions, catering to Under-11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 shuttlers, both boys and girls, include Singles and Doubles events.

The Open category features a variety of events, such as Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles across different age groups, offering a dynamic playing field for participants. In an exciting addition, this year’s championship introduces Women’s and Men’s Singles events for the first category among the losers of the Open semi-finals.

With a generous total cash prize pool of Rs.750,000, the championship aims to reward outstanding performers. Winners will not only receive cash prizes but will also be presented with certificates and medals, making the Southern Province All-Island Open Badminton Championship a truly rewarding experience.
