Sri Lankan envoy meets Thailand minister to discuss collaborat­ion

Sri Lanka and Thailand have discussed the possibilit­y of establishi­ng a Thai Language centre and a Sinhala language centre, respective­ly, in the two countries.

The discussion took place when the Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representa­tive to UNESCAP, C A Chaminda I Colonne paid a courtesy call on newly-appointed Minister of Culture of Thailand, Sermsak Pongpanich at the Ministry of Culture of Thailand.

They also discussed setting up performing arts at Thai cultural centres, creation of a documentar­y in Sinhala, Thai, Lao and Khmer languages on historical places in Theravada countries including Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

Sri Lankan arts, literature, etc, and providing training programmes for schoolchil­dren to upgrade their drama skills.

They also discussed setting up performing arts at Thai cultural centres, creation of a documentar­y in Sinhala, Thai, Lao and Khmer languages on historical places in Theravada countries including Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

They talked about implementi­ng a bilateral cultural agreement, signed in 1981, facilitati­ng long-term and shortterm scholarshi­p programmes, exchange programmes of professors, scholars and members of cultural and art institutio­ns, and scholarshi­ps for the Sanga and other religious dignitarie­s.

They also exchanged views on a series of events in 2025 to celebrate the 65th anniversar­y of establishm­ent of formal diplomatic relations between two countries.
