Rodney’s ‘Sudu Appachchi’ goes to Vidarbha IFF in India

Renowned film maker and journalist Rodney Widanapath­irana’s latest movie ‘Sudu Appachchi’ (‘Dear Granddad’) will be screened in Vidarbha Internatio­nal Film Festival, which will be held on January 28-30 in Nagpur-India.

Based on a mysterious and mythical story in a remote village in

Sri Lanka ‘Sudu Appachchi’ - ‘Dear Grandad’ is Rodney’s third movie and his first film production.

‘Sudu Appachchi’ revolves around a 70-year-old elderly man who lives in a rural village. Since he is fair in complexion everyone in the village calls him ‘Sudu Appachchi’. He has a small farm that he runs with the help of his wife and the couple looks after their grandson Avish. Avish’s father lives in Italy, the family wants to send Avish to Italy once he finishes his education in Sri Lanka.

The peaceful and harmonious life in the village is shattered with the entrance of a drama teacher to the village school from the city. At the same time villagers come across a mysterious man who they think is a ghost. Since the arrival of the graduate drama teacher and the mysterious man, the villagers think that the teacher has a connection with the ‘ghost’ who wandered around the city. Because of this, the teacher faces many problems and he is even being beaten.

Gamini Samarakoon, Ishara Wickramasi­nghe, Rupa Pathirana, Stanley Krishnarat­hna, Ranjith Ranasinghe, Kelum Dharmadasa and Child artistes Avishka Wijerathna, Arosha Wijerathna, Nishedha Jayasinghe star in this film.

Produced by RW Production­s, cinematogr­aphed by Mahendra Senaratne, dialogue and assistant direction is by Marlon Widanapath­irana and the film is edited by Pasath Samaraweer­a.

To the music direction of Visharadha Manoj Peiris and the playback singers are Keerthi Pasqual and Sandun Hewage. The voice renditions for the playback songs are done by Sadew Santhula, Tharudini Methsaura, Thenuka Alagiyawan­na and Kithmini Kulathunga.
