SLIIT to host Open Day 2024 on 10th February to highlight endless possibilit­ies for prospectiv­e students

SLIIT will host an Open Day to showcase the limitless opportunit­ies for prospectiv­e students as they prepare for and explore exciting future career pathways. Scheduled for February 10th, 2024, SLIIT will host a unique Open Day to showcase glimpses of the Institute’s educationa­l opportunit­ies, internatio­nal transfer options and networks, employment opportunit­ies, and engagement activities aimed at broadening students’ academic horizons. Open days will be held concurrent­ly in Kandy Uni, Northern Uni, Matara centre and Kurunegala centre as well.

The Open Day is an annual calendar event that commences at 9.00 am, during which prospectiv­e students and interested individual­s are given a physical campus tour. They will be able to explore and experience SLIIT facilities, such as smart classrooms and newly establishe­d state-of-the-art laboratori­es, sport complexes and other numerous amenities.

During the sessions, students can have interactiv­e one-on-one sessions with alumni, and will have the opportunit­y to speak with well-experience­d SLIIT academics. The Open Day will include detailed informatio­n on SLIIT’s undergradu­ate degrees in Computing, Business, Engineerin­g, Architectu­re and Humanities and Sciences.

Two general sessions will be held at the SLIIT main auditorium with Deans from faculties, including Computing, Engineerin­g, Humanities and Sciences and Business School and Head of School of Architectu­re. These sessions will provide students an opportunit­y to learn more about the programmes from these experts. The first session will be held from 9 am. to 9.45 am. in Sinhala medium. The second session will take place from 3 pm to 3.45 pm and will be held in English. These sessions will be followed by interactiv­e Q&A sessions with knowledgea­ble lecturers.

The day will feature three enriching sub sessions, beginning with a dedicated exploratio­n of career guidance from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. Following this, a session on leadership skills will be conducted from 12 pm to 1 pm, offering valuable insights. The afternoon will be dedicated to profession­al developmen­t, scheduled from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm, providing participan­ts with a holistic learning experience across diverse areas of expertise.

In addition to these sessions, students and visitors will have the opportunit­y to witness the exceptiona­l talents of various student clubs and societies. AIESEC, ROTARACT, LEO Club, Sports Council and faculty student communitie­s will showcase their achievemen­ts and contributi­ons, creating a vibrant atmosphere on campus. Entertainm­ent activities, including singing performanc­es and live flash mobs, will add a touch of excitement and creativity to the event. Moreover, attendees can embark on engaging lab tours to explore the stateof-the-art facilities, providing firsthand insights into the cutting-edge research and technologi­cal resources available at SLIIT.
