‘Mean Girls’ in town

-

Hollywood musical teen comedy film ‘Mean Girls’, a debut directorial venture by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., is now being screened in theatres in Colombo. It is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was based on Mark Waters’s 2004 comedy film.

Starring Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Aulii Cravalho, and Christopher Briney, the film revolves around Cady Heron who is a hit with the group called ‘Plastics’ at her new school. Teenage Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) was educated in Africa by her scientist parents. When her family moves to the suburbs of Illinois, Cady finally gets to experience public school and gets a quick primer on the cruel, tacit laws of popularity that divide her fellow students into tightly knit cliques. But everything changes when she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George.

She unwittingly finds herself in the good graces of an elite group of cool students dubbed ‘the Plastics,’ but Cady soon realises how her shallow group of new friends earned this nickname.

The film’s soundtrack was released on January 12, 2024, by Interscope Records. The album features twelve musical numbers from the film, and the track ‘Not My Fault’ by Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion, released on December 15, 2023, as a single, which plays during the end credits scene followed by a remixed version of ‘Sexy’ by Avantika.

The film is now being screened at Kandy City Centre (KCC), Colombo City Centre (CCC), Liberty by SCOPE – Kollupitiya, Majestic – Colombo and Regal – Katubedda, Moratuwa.
