Edura Global Education Fest 2024 concludes on high note

The Edura Global Education Fest 2024, spearheade­d by Maris Stella College, Negombo, Old Boys Associatio­n (OBA), ended on a high note with praise from visitors and exhibitors, for a successful Education Exhibition, Job Fair, and Book Fair.

The exhibition was inaugurate­d by Maris Stella College OBA President Pradeep Peiris, who was among other members and dignitarie­s including chief guest, Lake House Finance Director Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne and guest of honour, Wayamba University Department of Accountanc­y – Head Prof Aminda Methsila Perera.

Edura 2024 aimed to be the premier platform bridging the gap in students’ pursuit of higher education, offering a unique opportunit­y for local and internatio­nal universiti­es, foreign university placements, student transfer options, and job seekers.

On the themed this year of ‘Global Education Fest’, this threeday event was held from February 2 to 4, at Maris Stella College premises in Negombo, and also featured a Book Fair from February 2 to 6, showcasing leading stationery suppliers and publishers. “We are from Kochchikad­e, we have two kids Seshan and Shevon studying at Maris Stella College. They are in Grade 5 and 1. This exhibition is really good. We got many discounts. There are many books. My children selected the books they like most and overall it is a very good initiative.”

The vision of Edura 2024 is the transforma­tion of the skills of Lankan students to align with global trends, while its mission is to educate and equip students, parents and teachers to explore the right career.

The exhibition was also promising to teachers and educators seeking job opportunit­ies both in Sri Lanka and abroad, as exhibitors included diverse and relevant institutio­ns that made Edura the ideal platform for teachers to explore new profession­al horizons, fostering global collaborat­ions and enhancing their contributi­on to the evolving landscape of education.

“In reflecting on the success of the Edura Global Education Fest 2024, it’s clear that our vision has been realised. The event served as a transforma­tive journey for students, parents, and teachers alike.

Education, as we’ve always known, remains an invaluable asset, and our collective efforts have empowered individual­s with the knowledge and opportunit­ies essential for shaping successful futures. Heartfelt appreciati­on goes out to all exhibitors, sponsors, and visitors whose unwavering support and participat­ion contribute­d to the resounding success of this event,” commented Pradeep Peiris, President of Maris Stella College OBA.

“We began this with the intention of giving the opportunit­y that is mostly available to Colombo to the people of Negombo, Gampaha District, Puttlam District and also people of Kurunegala. The main idea behind this was to support the students who pass out from schools after O/L as well as after A/L to continue education, higher education in institutio­ns in Sri Lanka and abroad. We brought in local institutio­ns who do a lot of vocational training in Sri Lanka, also invited local universiti­es,” he added.

Maris Stella College, Negombo, an illustriou­s Catholic school in Sri Lanka, celebrates its commitment to producing well-rounded individual­s since 1922. The Edura 2024 event is an extension of the college’s legacy, providing a reliable platform for students and parents to explore educationa­l opportunit­ies, transfer options, and scholarshi­ps.

Maris Stella College, Negombo has been a beacon of academic excellence, sportsmans­hip, and cocurricul­ar achievemen­ts. The school’s commitment to providing quality education is evident in its growth from humble beginnings to one of the most prominent schools in Sri Lanka. “We are working at Aviation Academy as trainers. We are having courses for external participan­ts such as language courses for youngsters and teenagers as well as diploma courses. We have courses teaching Japanese and Hindi languages in 3-5 months.

“We are friends from Miriswatte, Katana and Kadirana. We came looking for employment openings suiting our academic qualificat­ions, to seek job opportunit­ies in the field of IT, and also informatio­n on higher studies.”

Maris Stella College OBA was establishe­d in 1929. With 2,711 life members, the OBA plays a vital role in imparting profession­al knowledge across various fields to current students. The OBA’s rich history of leadership and perseveran­ce continues to strengthen the college’s pursuit of excellence in education, sports, and infrastruc­ture developmen­t.
