‘One Love’:

World steps back to reggae era

‘One Love: Bob Marley’, a musical film based on the life of great reggae singer and songwriter Bob Marley, is now being screened in theatres in Colombo and island wide.

‘One Love:Bob Marley’ is a 2024 American biographic­al musical drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. It is based on the life of Jamaican born reggae singer Bob Marley, from his rise to fame in the mid1970s up until his death in 1981.

The film was released on February 14, the Valentine’s Day and premiered at the famous ‘Carib 5’ in Kingston, Jamaica, the home town of Bob Marley, on January 23, 2024.

Downie- a Jamaican keyboardis­t and pianist best known for his involvemen­t as one of the original members of Bob Marley and The Wailers. Also star Aston Barrett Jr. As Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett. He was was a Jamaican musician and Rastafaria­n and best known as the bandleader of Bob Marley’s backing band, as well as co-producer of the albums, and the man in charge of the overall song arrangemen­ts.

Hector Lewis star as Carlton Carly Barrett, who was a Jamaican musician best known for being the long-time drummer for Bob Marley & The Wailers. Recognized for his innovative style, which featured a highly syncopated, broken triplet pattern on the hi-hat, and for his dazzling drum introducti­ons. Nadine Marshall plays the role of Sidilla Editha ‘Cedella’ Malcolm, the Jamaican singer and writer and the late mother of reggae king Bob Marley.

Also star James Norton as Chris Blackwell, Anthony Welsh as Don Taylor, Henry Douthwaite as Norval Marley and Michael Gandolfini as Howard Bloom.

In June 2018, it was announced that Paramount Pictures were developing a biographic­al drama film based on the life of singer and songwriter Bob Marley, with Marley’s son Ziggy Marley serving as a producer. In March 2021, Reinaldo Marcus Green had been hired to direct, with Zach Baylin, Frank E. Flowers, and Terence Winter writing the screenplay. In February

2022, Kingsley Ben-Adir was cast as the titular character, after an extensive, yearlong and globe-spanning search by the studio. In August, Lashana Lynch had joined the cast playing as Bob’s wife Rita Marley. In February 2023, Michael Gandolfini, Nadine Marshall, James Norton and Anthony Welsh had joined the cast.
