Colombo welcomes the country’s first ‘Padel Tennis’ court

In a groundbrea­king moment for the sports enthusiast­s of Sri Lanka, Padel House Colombo proudly unveiled the nation’s first-ever Padel Tennis Court in Thimbiriga­syaya, Colombo. The launch took place on February 27 with the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Lands, Youth Affairs and Sports, Harin Fernando amidst a gathering of invitees, sports enthusiast­s and the media, marking a significan­t milestone in the country's sports and recreation landscape.

“We are thrilled to pioneer the introducti­on of Padel to Sri Lanka through Padel House. Our vision is to redefine sports experience­s in the country, and Padel, being a globally celebrated sport, aligns perfectly with that ambition. This launch signifies more than just a new venture, it's a commitment to fostering a community of sports

enthusiast­s and bringing fresh adventures to our beautiful island,” said Shamal Perera, Director of Padel House.

Padel tennis, a fusion of tennis and

squash, has been sweeping the globe with its engaging gameplay and accessibil­ity. The newly establishe­d Padel Tennis Court in Colombo promises to be a game changer in the local sports scene, offering a unique and inclusive experience for players of all ages and diverse levels expertise.

Commenting on the functional aspect, Director Padel of House Rajeev Rajapakse said “At Padel House, we are passionate about the technical brilliance of Padel. It combines strategy, skill, and sheer enjoyment on the court. The adaptabili­ty of the game allows players, irrespecti­ve of their age, fitness levels or skills at racquet sports to engage in a game and have a fantastic time”.

“Padel is easy to pick up, yet intricate enough to offer a compelling challenge. We are excited to share the technical intricacie­s of Padel tennis with the Sri Lankan community,” he added.

The state-of-the-art facility has been designed with meticulous attention to detail and equipped with the latest technology that meets internatio­nal standards, providing players with a top-notch sporting experience.
