Sheraton Colombo, not your typical business hotel

- By Shanali Fernando

Towering above street level, the newly opened Sheraton Colombo under the Marriot International umbrella, is fast becoming a hub for networking and socializing.

“Because of our global presence we take pride in being a destination for international travellers to come together to one place, to get to know each other and interact. While we wanted to increase our footprint in Sri Lanka it was also about creating more avenues and opening more doors for the industry as whole, so that the city is benefited and in turn, the country will benefit,” said General Manager Rahul Maini during a press tour recently.

If it presents as your typical business hotel from the outside, it’s only when you walk through their doors that the modern and effortlessly elegant ambience with high-quality finishes throughout is evident. One end of the spacious lobby opens up to the Colpetty Lounge - “a place where locals can gather with a group of friends, sip on our famous tea-inspired cocktails while tapping their toes to some live music, or enjoy Sheraton hospitality for some quality alone time,” the GM noted. At the other end, is the Ceylon Bake Shop, where you can sip on some good coffee enjoy the cosy café vibes, and grab freshly baked bread or savouries.

The hotel has an all-day dining restaurant that boasts of an elaborate buffet spanning many cuisines and action stations. “The Colombo Kitchen is a modern gourmet marketplace promising something for everyone.” To get the full Sheraton experience sit down at the Community table (a large table at the centre of the dining floor that you could find in any Sheraton hotel) to mingle with fellow travellers and enjoy good food and great company.

Exclusive for guests, the pool bar area is the perfect spot to take a dip, enjoy a beverage, and unwind away from the hustle and bustle. A rooftop restaurant is also underway offering expansive views of the city and the ocean.

“While we have the advantage of thriving in being the first choice of business travel due to our global presence, the hotel also has a lot of fun and exciting elements to be enjoyed by guests and locals alike,” the GM said, talking of the Shine Spa and gym that is open to the public. The spa operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. has a range of eastern and western treatments starting with a 30-minute foot massage and up to 3-hour packages using certified local products and Sothys for facials.

Exclusive for the Bonvoy members, the 19th floor has a 24/7 selection of food and beverages to give club members privacy and relaxation.

The hotel consists of 320 rooms categorized into six clusters. All rooms have a mix of ocean and city views.
