Ruwan Ranasinghe hits the top with ‘Feelings’ (Henguma)

New generation singer Ruwan Kumara Ranasinghe is not an unfamiliar name for new wave music fans in Sri Lanka. Ruwan is a known figure in the Sinhala music field since his Sirasa Super Star days in 2011.

Ruwan had studied music under popular musician Romesh Sugathapal­a, who also from Kandy and studied up to Visharada level. Ruwan had a craze to listen to all types of songs and music from the radio and other digital sources, had an ambition to be a popular singing personalit­y.

‘But my real musical journey started with the release of ‘Pata Gewa Aadare’, which paved the way for me to stepped into the world of fame and glitter’ Ruwan said.

Ruwan’s musical journey began in 2014 with his debut song, ‘Pata Gewa Adare’, penned by Dhanushka Kumaratung­a and composed by Ruwan Meegaswath­tha, took the music world by storm. It was the foundation stone for his career in music, followed by some of his popular hits like ‘Nolebena Obe’, ‘Senasumak Patha’, ‘Obe Ruwa’, and ‘Sagare Taram’.

Ruwan’s 2018 song ‘Senasumak Patha’ was penned by Ruwan Meegahawat­ta. The music compositio­n were also of Meegahawat­ta. The lyrics for the song ‘Obe Ruwa’ were penned jointly by Ruwan Kumara Ranasinghe himself and his younger sister Sandunika Ranasinghe, while the music compositio­n was by Sanjula Himala. ‘Nolebena Obe’, a duet with the talented Nimanthi Chamodani, was a testament to Ruwan’s ability to collaborat­e and bring out the best in his fellow artistes. Nimanthi, a Derana Dream Star contestant, lent her voice to Sathsara Kasun’s poignant lyrics and Dulip Mirando’s captivatin­g melody. The song even made it to the top 25 of the Derana Music Video Awards 2015, making Ruwan glow proud.

His latest creation, ‘Henguma’, promises to be another masterpiec­e is a duet with Wassani Samarasing­he and the soulful melodies of Ruwan Meegaswath­tha. Achala Solomons’ heartfelt lyrics add a final touch of poignant beauty, making ‘Henguma’ a song that resonates deep within the heart.

From the hills of Kandy to the vibrant world of music, Ruwan Kumara Ranasinghe’s voice has serenaded thousands, with emotions.

Ruwan Kumara Ranasinghe a native of Alapalawa, a village in Peradeniya is in his late twenties has had his education at Alapalawa Maha Vidyalaya. He is the eldest of three siblings, where the parents are farmers. Ruwan Kumara had shown interests to music not inherited from parents perhaps with innate talent. Though he had been beating on the desks and singing unfortunat­ely the teachers; had not identified his talent. However his mother had noticed his talent had encouraged him to sing and rendered a huge backing. She had even taken bank loans to pursue a career recording songs and then music videos.

To date he has achieved his dream by recording about five songs three are with music videos.

Beyond his musical journey, Ruwan is passionate about nurturing new talent.

‘I want to give helping hand to any new comer, who needs help in music as career. I can help them with lyrics written without any charge. I never hesitate to reach out on Facebook or Instagram. And always remember the help and the blocks I faced as a new comer to the field. I am here mainly because of my mother and I do all these good gesture, because of my mother’ Ruwan said.
