Sayuri to receive Rising Star award

Sayuri P. Jinadasa, MD, MPH, has been awarded the Rising Star award by the Sri Lanka Foundation in the USA for her contributi­ons to the field of acute critical care and her impressive educationa­l achievemen­ts. The award will be presented at a ceremony at the Sheraton Universal Hotel on Sunday, April 21.

Born in New Jersey, where her parents lived after they came to the United States from Sri Lanka, Sayuri has three

Ivy League degrees. She began with an undergradu­ate degree in chemistry from Princeton University in New Jersey, followed by her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, and her Master’s of Public Health at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health in Massachuse­tts.

She did a fellowship in surgical critical care from 2020-2022 at the Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland Medical Center, Maryland, as a Surgical Critical Care and AAST Acute Care Surgery Fellow & Instructor before beginning her current position at Virginia Commonweal­th University. Dr. Jinadasa was a Magna Cum Laude graduate from the Princeton University Department of Chemistry, and she won Outstandin­g Resident Teacher of the Year Awards from Harvard Medical School in both 2014 and 2020. In addition, she has created and directed courses for medical students in Advanced Trauma Operative Management, Minimally Invasive Trauma Surgery, Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma, and Advanced Trauma Life Support.

Dr. Jinadasa is the Assistant Professor of Surgery at Virginia Commonweal­th University Health System, Virginia and actively mentors medical students.
