‘Spirit of Catamarans’

-

Catamarans Sports Club, the popular Sports and Social Club in the music crazy city of Moratuwa, has ventured on a unique musical idea to produce a music video with the participation of its membership.

A song titled ‘Spirit of Catamarans’, reflecting the true spirit of the ‘Cats’, has been audio recorded recently. Conceptualised and composed by ‘Cats’ member cum veteran musician Priya Peiris of ‘La Bambas’ fame, ‘Spirit of Catamarans’ is portrayed as a tribute to the iconic institution. The visuals are to be completed at the clubhouse premises during the coming months and will be released via ‘Cats’ YouTube platform.

The song is vocalised by Priya, along with club members, Lasla Fernando (La Bambas ), Brian Coorey, the former multi-band man and left hand bassist, Lincoln De Silva of Super Pink and Purple, Delvin Pereira and Chrysanthus Fernando.

‘The President of the Catamarans Club’ Mahesha Perera is much elated and upbeat about this production, which perhaps the first of its kind for any social or sports establishment anywhere in the country’ said initiator Priya.

Cats’, as the Club is fondly known in sports circles, was founded in 1946 and boasts of a proud and chequered history as a vibrant social hub with a tradition of great fellowship and music making. The club came to be known by that name with the initiative taken by a former Principal of Prince of Wales College J.B.C. Rodrigo, who was a cricket enthusiast. Cricket was the main game of the club and the cricket team was formed from old mainly from the Old Sebs and Cambrians.

The ‘Spirit of Catamarans’ will be launched soon and available on YouTube and social media shortly.
