-

To empower Muslim civil society, a steering committee of the Sri Lanka Chapter of the World Forum for Sri Lanka Muslims (WFSLM) was formed on April 16, in Colombo under the chairmanship of Prof Rasheen Bappu.

The Chapter will focus on areas such as public relations and media, education, pluralism, coexistence and interaction, social and event management, political and international affairs, gender equality, health and wellbeing, legal, youth, climate change and sustainability, project monitoring and evaluation, finance, fund raising and membership development.

The WFSLM was launched at a gathering in Harrow, Middlesex, United Kingdom on October 18, 2019. The ceremony was attended by Sri Lanka’s then-High Commissioner Manisha Gunasekera, Parliamentarian Bob Black, a large number of Lankan expatriates from all communities, and worldwide delegates.

WFSLM was established as an alliance body to bring together overseas Lankan Muslim organisations and individuals to have a unified voice in matters concerning Muslims living in Sri Lanka. As an independent, apolitical body, it will harness all available resources globally and strengthen the collective voice to build and reinforce the foundations of a pluralistic, democratic, and prosperous Sri Lanka.

WFSLM believes that all Sri Lankans have a collective responsibility to stand against all forms of racism, hate crime, and extremism, assist in development programmes and support the welfare of Lankans irrespective of their race, religion, ethnicity, social status, or political affiliation.

It is vital to encourage especially our youth to actively get involved in all WFSLM activities and foster an environment, create opportunities to thrive, and share responsibility in the service to humanity.WFSLM embraces diverse range of perspectives, knowledge, skills, expertise, experiences, talents, abilities and strengthen its standing in the global arena.
