President installs new fire commissioner Jakhari
President Desi Bouterse on Thursday installed the new fire commissioner, Radjen Jakhari g. Jakhari joined the Fire Department on April 1, 1984 and became substitute fire commissioner on January 1, 2009. On November 23, 2015 he was appointed acting fire commissioner after former fire commissioner Cecil Waal retired from active duty. Bouterse pointed out that Jakhari now carried main responsibility for the Fire Department Suriname (KBS). He also pointed out that the new fire commissioner received special training in Suriname and abroad. Jakhari has also been the head of various departments within the KBS. He and his predecessor were interns at the Fire Department in the Netherlands. According to Bouterse, Jakhari is known as a person who speaks his mind and who deems teamwork, flexibility and mutual respect as important things. The new police commissioner is always willing to other people. “He is the kind of person who indicates that he is still learning and who admits his mistakes. To him acceptance knows no boundary regardless of rank. Your commissioner has proven to be the right person for the job,” said Bouterse who urged the firefighters to support their new fire commissioner. After having accepted his new duty Jakhari pointed out that this job is not without its huge responsibility and expectations.
