NBB needs blood donors in Wanica District

-

The National Blood Bank (NBB) Foundation of the Surinamese Red Cross in May launched a blood drive at the Libi Makandra Retirement Homes in Lelydorp. But only a few people have signed up to become blood donors. District Commissioner Roline Samsoedien recently visited the location where the blood drive is being held and urged residents of the Wanica District to donate blood so that lives can be saved. This is the 4th periodical blood drive of the NBB in Wanica. According to the DC, more than 100 people have already signed up. “But the more people sign up to become blood donor, the better.” In Suriname blood is donated voluntarily. “We give blood because we love our fellow man which is not the case in foreign countries where blood and organs of people are being traded. Giving blood can save lives,” said DC Samsoedien. Many people evidently do not know that they can donate blood at Libi Makandra. The District Commissioner’s Office will therefore spread the word so that everybody will get the information.

There is a huge demand for blood donors in Suriname. The Blood Bank is constantly seeking blood donors who are willing to give blood voluntarily. The nation’s hospitals need dozens of blood bags on a daily basis for surgeries, the delivery ward and traffic victims. This is why blood donors play a vital role. The NBB is the only agency that delivers blood products to authorized hospitals and institutes.
