Murder suspect shows up at attorney’s office

42-year-old WL on Wednesday showed up at the office of Attorney at Law, Irvin Kanhai. Kanhai told Times of Suriname that the man showed up at his office because of a murder that was committed during the weekend at the corner of the Kabalebo- and the Marowijnestraat. The defense attorney then contacted the police. Later a police unit showed up at the attorney’s office to pick the suspect up. Kanhai asked the police officers to take it easy when arresting the suspect. The Public Relations Office of the Surinamese Police Force confirmed the reports. During the weekend the police received a call regarding a deadly shooting at the corner of the Kabaleboand the Marowijnestraat. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the lifeless body of a male victim. According to a witness, two men had visited the victim early Saturday morning. But the men suddenly started arguing before walking out of the house. The owner of the house then heard a shot and saw one of the men on the ground with a gunshot wound. The suspect had reportedly fled the scene. Sources told Times of Suriname that the suspect and the victim were caught in a money dispute.
