First Lady thanks People’s Republic of China for its support

First Lady Ingrid BouterseWa­ldring at the start of the Chinese Film Festival in TBL Cinemas on Thursday night expressed her gratitude for the support that she received for his projects from the embassy of the People’s Republic of China. The First Lady also emphasized the importance of movies to the people of Suriname and China. Bouterse-Waldring pointed out that the festival was organized to commemorat­e the 40th anniversar­y of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Suriname. She also pointed out that the diplomatic ties have grown stronger throughout the years. The First Lady explained that the Chinese movies would make the Surinamese people familiar with Chinese culture. China’s ambassador to Suriname, Zhang Jinxiong, pointed out that he enjoyed presenting the Chinese movies to the Surinamese cinemagoer­s. He explained that movies are a form of art which attract the attention of many people. The diplomat pointed out that the movies share the riches of the Chinese storytelli­ng with Suriname. He deemed this a great opportunit­y to get familiar with Chinese cinematogr­aphy and the Chinese life style and culture. The ambassador proudly pointed out that the Chinese film industry is currently one of the biggest in the world. He also pointed out that he strongly believes that mutual respect is created by getting familiar with each other’s customs and culture. The first version of the Chinese Film Festival is organized by the Chinese embassy in associatio­n with the Suriname Chinese Friendship Associatio­n. Dirk Currie, chairman of the Suriname-China Friendship Associatio­n, hopes that the Surinamese people will flock to TBL Cinemas to watch the Chinese movies that were recently released and which received internatio­nal prizes.
