Son returns home after prison break: Father calls the police

-

A man on Friday called the police after his 22-year-old son, JD, returned home after having escaped from prison. The man told Times of Suriname that his son returned home and asked him to bring him to a relative who lives in the Commewijne District so that he could hide there. The man explained that he chose to call the police because he does not want his son’s name to make it to a Wanted list. He also explained that there is also a big chance that the police will shoot a convict who is on the lam. He pointed out that he wants to show his son the right path and he also wants for his son to start believing in God after his release from prison. “I do not want to teach him evil things such as becoming a fugitive.” When the son returned home, he told his parents that he had not seen him in a long time. He claimed that e had not received any visitors in the past 2 months. The convict’s father worked in the hinterland while his mother had other commitments. The boy explained that he found it frustrating that he did not get any visits from them. The prison sentence seemed even harsher which is why he chose to break out of prison. The man who has assured his son that he would visit him every week explained that his son only has to spend 4 more months in prison. JD was found guilty of having stolen goods in a supermarket and was sentenced to one year and five months in prison. JD reportedly kept looking outside after he had returned home. The police eventually showed up and surrounded the house. The young man then hid in the attic but eventually decided to surrender.JD has reportedly been placed in solitary confinement.
