China and India also present at 16th Indofair
The 16th edition of Indofair which is taking place in Sana Budaya is a ‘joint cultural performance’ because 3 countries from Asia are participating in the annual event. Reports indicate that China and India decided to join Indonesia at the Indofair. The Indofair which commenced on October 25th is being organized by the embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in association with the Association for the Commemoration of Javanese Immigration. The Indonesian embassy pointed out that this year’s fair is aimed at promoting Indonesian products, services, tourism, culture, gastronomy and strengthening trade relations between Indonesia and Suriname. The annual trade fair attracts between 3,000 and 4,000 visitors every year. Many people travel long distances to attend the activities of the Indofair such as cultural performances. They also flock to the fair to taste the delicious food and to have a close look at the products that are put on display and sold by Surinamese and Indonesian entrepreneurs. Despite the current economic situation, it is expected that the Indofair will further boost the relations between both nations. Reports indicate that 26 participants signed up for the Indofair which will be concluded on October 30. There are 64 stands, including 20 food stands and 44 non-food stands, at the Indofair. 6 entrepreneurs who are specialists when it comes to furniture, souvenirs, textile, arts and crafts and other products including the Rumah Joglo’ (traditional Javanese house) have travelled all the way from Indonesia to Suriname The Surinamese entrepreneurs will not only sell Javanese food and Indonesian products but they will also put various items on display such as electrical cables and fitness equipment. Visitors can also gather more information about studying in Indonesia and getting a scholarship. For the first time ever the embassy organized the family trip this year in order to boost tourism. The women’s association of the Indonesian embassy called Darma Wanita Persatuan is once again selling typical Indonesian dishes and snacks exclusively at the Indofair.
