Su Aid to help out retirement homes

-

Su Aid is also making preparations to help out the less fortunate this year. This year the organization will collect donations for senior citizens because they need all the help they can get due to the precarious state of the nation’s economy.

Sidney Grunberg, secretary and treasurer at SU Aid, is urging everybody to lend a helping hand. He told Times of Suriname that Su Aid never had any doubts about continuing the project despite the precarious state of the nation’s economy. He explained that the senior citizens need support because they have worked for society during their younger years. Grunberg pointed out that Su Aid has regular sponsors who make a donation every year. “But if every Surinamese citizen donates SRD 1, Su Aid can collect SRD 500,000,” said Grunberg who added that the organization has already asked the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) a list with the names of all the retirement homes. Su Aid has already contacted the old folks’ homes to ask them to hand in projects. The organization will then evaluate each project to determine which retirement homes urgently need money. The donations will be used to finance the projects. “Last year Su Aid collected about SRD 325,000,” said zegt Grunberg who added that the organization will publish a half-yearly report to show the nation which projects were financed with the donations.
