Internet banking DSB back online

-

The website of De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB) is once again operational after having been offline for several days due to cyber attacks. Renate Cruden Public Relations Officer at the bank, pointed out that the site was up-and-running again on Saturday and that clients can once again engage in internet banking. Last week DSB was one of the targets of cyber attacks. The other three websites that were attacked are overheid gov.sr and the websites of the Telecommunication Company Suriname (Telesur) and the National Democratic Party (NDP). Gardelito Hew A Kee, a member of the E-government committee at the Office of the President, indicated that he is not aware of any other attacks on local websites. He also has not received any other demands from a group that claims to be Anonymous and that it is behind the cyber attacks. The group initially demanded $10,000 and indicated that it found the government to be corrupt. The group also indicated that it would demand more money if their demand was not met. In a previous interview Hew A Kee indicated that indications suggest that the attacks originated from Bulgaria. He also explained that these were cyber or DDOS attacks and that the websites had not been hacked.
