In­ter­net ban­king DSB back on­li­ne

The web­si­te of De Su­ri­naam­sche Bank (DSB) is on­ce again ope­ra­ti­o­nal af­ter ha­ving been of­fli­ne for se­ve­r­al days due to cy­ber at­tacks. Re­na­te Cru­den Pu­blic Re­la­ti­ons Of­fi­cer at the bank, poin­ted out that the si­te was up-and-run­ning again on Sa­tur­day and that clients can on­ce again en­ga­ge in in­ter­net ban­king. Last week DSB was one of the tar­gets of cy­ber at­tacks. The other three web­si­tes that we­re at­tack­ed are over­heid and the web­si­tes of the Te­le­com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on Company Su­ri­na­me (Te­les­ur) and the Na­ti­o­nal De­mo­cra­tic Par­ty (NDP). Gard­eli­to Hew A Kee, a mem­ber of the E-govern­ment com­mit­tee at the Of­fi­ce of the Pre­si­dent, in­di­ca­ted that he is not awa­re of any other at­tacks on lo­cal web­si­tes. He al­so has not re­cei­ved any other de­mands from a group that claims to be Ano­ny­mous and that it is be­hind the cy­ber at­tacks. The group ini­ti­al­ly de­mand­ed $10,000 and in­di­ca­ted that it found the govern­ment to be cor­rupt. The group al­so in­di­ca­ted that it would de­mand mo­re mo­ney if their de­mand was not met. In a pre­vious in­ter­view Hew A Kee in­di­ca­ted that in­di­ca­ti­ons sug­gest that the at­tacks ori­gi­na­ted from Bul­ga­ria. He al­so ex­plai­ned that the­se we­re cy­ber or DDOS at­tacks and that the web­si­tes had not been hack­ed.
