Dear Zindagi crosses Rs 50 crore mark

-

INDIA - Red Chillies Entertainment’s Dear Zindagi collected Rs. 52.75 crore on its ninth day. The film saw a growth of 55.56% on Saturday (December 3). The Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhattstarrer managed to collect a robust Rs. 3.50 crore on Saturday. This goes on to show that good stories can easily float through the crisis like demonetisation. Dear Zindagi is one of the fastest films to collect Rs 50 crore at the box office in the recent months. Gauri Shinde’s Dear Zindagi is a story about a young woman who is endeavouring to find stability in her life. Alia plays a young woman named Kaira with complete conviction. After having undergone a series of failed relationships, she heads back to her sleepy hometown in Goa where she meets a rather dishy therapist Jehangir Khan (played by Shah Rukh Khan). The film largely addresses mental health that Kaira, who represents the young generation of today, faces and decides to address. Not every day do we see such a film do well at box office. The last few months saw a plethora of action films including Shivaay and Force 2. We also saw a slew of romantic films like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Tum Bin 2. Dear Zindagi, neither had any high-octane action sequences nor a heavy dose of romance, yet it has been able to chart out its own destiny. Dear Zindagi had a limited release over 1200 screens in the domestic market and over 800 screens in the overseas market. There is no doubt that the makers had a target audience in mind. A Shah Rukh Khan film in India has a big release over 3000-3500 screens. Shah Rukh’s stardom and his presence in the film, even though in an extended cameo, has remarkably benefited the film. What cannot be denied, however, is that he wouldn’t have done much without a story in place. (indianexpress)
