Police impersonators arrest teenager

-

Police impersonators on Friday night arrested a teenager in the Wanica District. They also ransacked the home of the teenager’s father and made off with money and a laptop. The father of the victim told Times of Suriname that his 18-year-old son lives somewhere else and that he was visiting him. His son had stayed home while he had gone to a memorial service. The boy told his father that a man had come to the house and had asked him where his father was. After he had told the man that his dad was not home the man left. But shortly afterwards two men stepped out of a car that pulled over 50 meters from the house. The men approached the boy and asked him about his father’s driver’s license that they claimed had been stolen. The men presented themselves as detectives and told the teenager that they had found the driver’s license in a car. They then made it clear to the boy that his dad was a suspect in an armed robbery case. The teenager explained to the men that his father had told the police that his driver’s license and other stuff were stolen by burglars. The impersonators went into the house and handcuffed the boy. They left the teenager in a room before ransacking the house. After they had taken some goods and money they put the boy in the car and pretended that they were going to the police station. They left him at a street corner. The father told Times of Suriname that he met his son at a street corner. “He was trembling and could hardly speak. My driver’s license was stolen on October 9. My son saw their faces and will recognize them if he sees them again. My son claimed that the men were armed,” said the father who added that he has already notified the police.
