Suspected paedophile teachers will be fired

-

Education, Science and Culture Minister Robert Peneux who attended the opening of the Child Protection Alarm Center in Paramaribo South on Monday said that he has been informed that two teachers are also being suspected of paedophile activities.

He has asked his colleague from the Justice and Police Minister, Jennifer van DijkSilos, to send him the files of the teachers. “I will take firm action. They will be fired on the spot,” said the minister who added that when the eraser is thrown at students at schools and principals do not take action, the principals will also be given the boot because the people in charge of running know the pedagogical rules. “You know what to do,” said the minister who added that when the education inspector receives these reports and fails to take action, he will also fire the inspector. The minister made it clear that there must be optimal control.

Peneux pointed out

that children must not only be spoilt but protected as well. The minister explained that there are 3 environments when it comes to raising children namely the situation at home, school and the circle of friends. “We often see that parents sometimes do not realize how important it is to be involved in the upbringing of their children.

Parents often think that the upbringing takes place at school. That is a wrong approach. We at the ministry have often tried to also intensify the participation of parents but we see that many parents do not participate.

And that means that I as minister will be forced to come up with a different approach.” The principal alone is not able to tackle all problems. Social workers and child psychologists are needed. I deem it important for children to receive coaching when it comes to studying and everything around that.”
