Salvation Army hauls in half of its target

-

The Salvation Army (LDH) which aims at collecting SRD 300,000 this year through its Red Kettle campaign has already hauled in half of its target. The Red Kettle campaign will be concluded within a week. Major Vilece Thomas believes that the Salvation Army will reach its goal. “Suriname is good at it, so there is nothing to be afraid of”, said Thomas. The registration for the Christmas parcels will take place at the main office of the Salvation Army along the Henck Arronstraat on December 12. The Salvation Army aims at giving 3,000 people a Christmas parcel this year.

The Christmas parcels will be handed out in Paramaribo on December 16. The major explained that although people still put money in the red kettles, most people wire the money into the Salvation Army’s bank account. Thomas pointed out that we’re still in the first week of December and that people are still focusing on paying the bills before possibly making donations with the money they have left.

Thomas explained that about 3,000 parcels were handed out last year. Although goods are more expensive, the Salvation Army will try to give the same number of people a parcel this year. The Salvation Army wants to help everybody whose name is on the list. Thomas is counting on people to help out the less fortunate by making generous donations. “They never let us down, and even now I believe they won’t”, said Thomas.
