Salvation Army thanks everybody for generous donations

-

The Salvation Army recently thanked everybody, the business community and the government included for the generous donations which made it possible to give a Christmas parcel to more than 2,700 people. Mayor Vilece Thomas pointed out that people have donated money and goods. It is estimated that the Salvation Army has received about SRD 250,000 in donations. Thomas explained that he can give an exact figure in January. The Salvation Army has achieved its goal of lifting people’s spirits. The Salvation Army indicated that the small and big donations were a big help. It had aimed at ‘collecting’ SRD 300,000 and handing out 3,000 Christmas parcels.

The mayor believes that the Salvation Army has also reached this objective and that it will make 3,000 people happy with a parcel. After the Salvation Army had handed out parcels in Paramaribo it seemed as if it would not be able to do the same in other districts. But thanks to the donations from the community and local businesses the Salvation Army managed to hand out parcels in Nickerie, Para, Saramacca , Pontbuiten and Lelydorp. The mayor who was also present at the distribution of parcels in the districts pointed out that the joy of the recipients was indescribable. The mayor pointed out that the Salvation Army will continue to work hard in order to help the needy.
