“They were a perfect fit”

-

USA - An unlikely trio of best friends was formed between two guinea pigs and an American pit bull when their owner safely introduced the two species to meet despite being warned her dog might kill the little rodents.

Pet owner Kristy Gamayo, 42, was told to keep her pit bull, Moki, away from her two guinea pigs, Frida and Pandora, but it turns out they really love to cuddle. And now Gamayo, of San Francisco, California, has even set up the Instagram account @piggiesandapitty for the adorable trio. Gamayo said: ‘When we brought Moki home, we immediately introduced her to the piggies, and we saw that they were a perfect fit. ‘Since the only knowledge that I had of pit bulls was that they were supposedly vicious and prey animals - it really surprised me how well and quickly the three of them bonded. ‘The piggies are always crawling up to Moki - smelling her and Moki in return licks them as she lies down with them. ‘To this day, Moki and the piggies cuddle together and Moki likes to give them kisses.’ The heart-warming bond between Gamayo’s pets has earned them a couple of hundred fans on Instagram. Gamayo who lives with partner, Alicia, 25, is a nonprofit director and a therapist by day and cannot get enough of her own furry family at home. She said: ‘My partner and I did everything to secure the cage and make sure Moki couldn’t jump in and kill them. ‘Also, San Francisco Animal Care and Control came to the house to inspect it before we were able to adopt Moki. ‘The officer told us that Moki might try to kill them and we needed to keep them apart at all times. ‘Immediately after Moki came home, we introduced her to the piggies by having them in our lap while Moki sniffed them and licked them. ‘She was gentle with them so we eventually put them on the floor with her and noticed that she would snuggle with them and lick them as if they were her babies.’ Bringing all three together under the same roof was hardly smooth sailing for Gamayo, who adopted the piggies and pit bull one by one. She first adopted Frida, who was the time was coupled with another guinea pig named Luna. Luna, however, died just two weeks later and soon after, Gamayo made the decision to adopt Pandora.
