BC applauds teacher strike
The Citizens’ Collective (BC) which has repeatedly announced that it is tired of this administration on Wednesday issued a press release, indicating that it applauded the teacher strike. “This is a good signal for the government as well as the nation,” said the BC. “If you touch one of us, you touch all of us. This should be an example for other sectors and should also serve as a hard lesson for this dictatorial administration. The BC expressed its solidarity with the teachers because they are fighting for a just cause,” said the BC which added that it is sticking to its demand namely that “Bouta has to go.” The organization pointed out that teachers are also fed up with the situation. For some time now teachers, bus owners, contractors, suppliers of products and other hardworking Surinamese citizens are structurally being kept dangling in suspense and are also being taken advantage of by the current administration,” said the BC which accused the government of having put Suriname in this tight situation with its mismanagement. “The reality is that each citizen will have to work hard despite all circumstances,” said the BC which also condemned the squandering of government funds by the current administration. The organization pointed out that the recent actions of the minister of Education made it clear that talking to this administration is senseless as the government does not listen. “The government is almost making as many promises as loans and thinks that it can get rid of agreements with rancor, threats and more promises.”
