Load shedding in Moengo after generator breakdown

-

3 of 4 generators have reportedly been out of order at the power plant in Moengo since January 14. As a result of this the power supply dropped with about 40%. The Energy Company Suriname (EBS) therefore had to opt for load shedding. The power plant at Moengo supplies electricity to 1,718 households. Reports indicate that the consumers in Moengo usually need 1,630 maximum. The remaining generator can reportedly generate 1,500 kW. But due to technical reasons the machine can only generate 1,000 kW at the moment. This means that there is a shortage of about 630 kW during the peak period. Technicians are currently trying to fix the problems. Reports indicate that the EBS is also planning on installing a new generator which is already at the plant and which can generate 1,010 kW. Another generator that can generate 1,824 kW will also be transported from Albina to the power plant at Moengo. Maintenance is expected to last until January 20. The EBS is working very hard to install the new generator as soon as possible in order to lift the shortage in the power supply. But for now the company has to keep switching off the power supply in several parts of Moengo. The company is urging consumers to use electricity economically so that load shedding can be kept to a minimum.
