Mathoera: “Police force has no fuel”

-

MP Krishna Mathoera (VHP) who is also a former chief of police on Tuesday expressed concern regarding the fact that the Police Force Suriname (KPS) has been without fuel since Saturday. Not all police vehicles could be refueled on Saturday. Sources told Times of Suriname that the supplier has not received payment for services rendered which is why he stopped delivering fuel. Police officers from police stations that had received little to no fuel requested assistance from other police stations. In some cases the police officers asked the persons who wanted to press charges to come by the police station. Police officers from Santo Boma reportedly had very little fuel at their disposal. They reportedly bought fuel from their own pocket so that they could transport detainees. If necessary they drive to the scene of the crime in their own vehicles. “It is an outrage that the government has let it come to this. The police force that has to protect and serve has no fuel in a time where crime is getting out of hand. The government is once again fooling the people with its promises of additional tools,” said Mathoera who added that “this shows that the government can’t manage the crisis.” “It is letting the crisis run its course. The people must understand that this government can’t solve the crisis. If they can’t even manage to supply the police with fuel, how can they solve the financial crisis and the serious problems of this country?”
