Teachers reached Drietabbetje on Tuesday

-

The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture issued a press release on Wednesday, indicating that eleven teachers who are stationed at OS Granman Akontoe Velantie School at Drietabbetje were able to return to their work station on Tuesday with the help of pontoon owners and Gum Air. The teachers had left for Paramaribo in December to spend the Christmas holidays in the capital. The flights were arranged by JPP International NV which is run by director Jan-Pieter Peneux. The pontoon owners who operate on the Marowijne River and the Sara Creek also lent a helping hand so that the teachers could reach their destination. Reports indicate that Maxigold and Armadelo Mining lent a helping hand. Peneux, chairman of the pontoon owners at Sara Creek and the Marowijne River, explained that the entire process started in November during a work visit of Natural Resources Minister Regillio Dodson. During the minister’s visit the teachers indicated that they would like to spend Christmas in the city. The outward and the return trip were arranged and the teachers were flown to the city and back. The trip would have taken 4 days if they had taken the boat. “As an entrepreneur it means a lot to me. This is mostly about the kids and we want to help out in the hinterland as much as we can,” said Peneux who added that he deems it important for entrepreneurs who operate in the hinterland to give back to the community. Merceliene Bruinhart and Giovanna Omzichtig who are stationed at the public elementary school at Drietabbetje expressed their gratitude. The education process at the OS Granman Akontoe Velantie School resumed on Wednesday.
