Request for King Koyeba’s release rejected

-

The judge handling a drug case involving a local celebrity on Monday rejected the request to temporarily release Lowinso M (31) who is generally known as local artist King Koyeba. King Koyeba was arrested on drug charges. The judge pointed out that she is also considering the circumstances as the suspect did not have the drugs for personal consumption but that he used a boy to sell the drugs for him. Defense attorneys Lygia Palmburg and Raoul Lobo recently filed the request because “their client is on trial for possession of 600 grams of drugs and not 6 kilograms of drugs as was reported by the media.” The judge asked King Koyeba to explain exactly what had happened but the defendant indicated that he would let his attorney do the talking. Jurmaine A, the second suspect, told the court that he had been given the drugs by somebody else and that he had to sell it. He approached King Koyeba and gave him half of the 1,000 grams of marijuana. A 19-year-old nephew of King Koyeba told the court that he occasionally sold drugs for his uncle. He sold each package for SRD 5 and handed the money over to his uncle. He explained that he was not aware that selling drugs in your house is against the law. He was aware of the fact that it is against the law to sell drugs on the streets. The teenager also told the court that the marijuana that was found in his school bag belonged to his uncle but that he did not know where his uncle had purchased it. The teenager explained that he lived with his uncle and that his uncle took care of him.
