Storekeeper robbed of SRD 41,000

-

A storekeeper whose store is located along the Nieuw Weergevondenweg in the Wanica District on Friday was robbed and tied up. Four robbers reportedly made off with SRD 41,000, 3 rice cookers, a water cooker, an electrical hot plate, 2 DVR boxes, 3 irons and 8 mobile phones. The store was open when the storekeeper left the store. The storekeeper’s wife was reportedly behind the cash register. A white car reportedly stopped in front of the store and 4 masked men stepped out of the car. Two of the criminals who were armed with guns pointed their weapons at the woman. A neighbor told Times of Suriname that one of the gunman placed his weapon against the woman’s head while the other one put his gun against her belly. The robbers gave the woman until the count of three to hand over all of the money. There was SRD 1,000 in the cash register. They then took her to the living room and forced her to reveal where the rest of the money was hidden. They then ‘found’ SRD 40,000 and took several appliances, 8 mobile phones and the DVR boxes. The robbers tied the woman up before fleeing the scene in the getaway vehicle. The woman managed to call her husband who then called the neighbor. The neighbor who had rushed to the woman’s aid explained that the woman managed to press the remote and open the garage door despite the fact that she was tied up. He then entered the building and cut the ropes. The neighbor pointed out that he had spotted the white car but that he was not aware what was going on inside the store. “The armed robbery happened in broad daylight,” said the neighbor who added that he was scared and that his home was burglarized not so long ago.
