Republic Bank donates SRD 800,000 to social projects
The Republic Bank Suriname on Tuesday donated SRD 800,000 in total to 4 institutes. The money will be used to finance social projects and is part of the Power To Make A Difference program that is being carried out in every country where Republic Bank Limited is located.
Institutes were given the opportunity to hand in their projects last year. 4 institutes were selected for the generous donations.
The National Foundation for People with A Visual Impairment in Suriname (Nationale Stichting voor Blinden en Slechtzienden in Suriname) will reportedly receive a financial injection aimed at training 75 people to read Braille. These 75 people will also receive ICT training. Stichting Postacademisch Onderwijs voor de Geneeskunde in Suriname will receive money to Carry out the ‘Sabi Akra Siki’ project. The project is aimed at reducing obesitas among youths between the ages 9 to 12 by giving information to them and their parents. An estimated 6,000 people are part of this group.
The Neptunes sport organization will give swimming lessons to students between the ages 6 and 10. The selection of schools will take place with the help of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. Neptunes will reportedly accommodate 250 students.
Stichting Biblionef Suriname (SBS) will reportedly use to money to expand the number of books for people from the ages 3 to 18. SBS hopes to purchase 10,000 new books. Republic Bank is prepared to cover the purchase of the books.
Gloria Anthony, general director at Republic Bank, pointed out that the donations were made because of the social responsibility of the bank. “We are making it clear that we as a bank are not only thinking about making money but also about giving back to the community.”
