A worker on Wednesday assaulted a senior couple with a hammer before robbing them. The assault/ robbery took place at the home of the 66yearold man and his 64yearold wife which is located along the Nagesar Narsingweg.

The victims were rushed to the hospital. The 66yearold man had serious head injuries and his wife sustained injuries in her face. The robber who works for the senior couple snatched 3 necklaces and also stole money and other jewels. He and another man from the Nickerie District had been hired to do some construction work. The couple had agreed to let the workers sleep downstairs while they were still busy with the construction project. But on Wednesday afternoon the worker grabbed a hammer and started hitting the senior citizens with it. After he had snatched their necklaces, he ransacked the entire house. The worker who had unexpectedly chosen a life of crime then fled the scene on foot. The other worker reportedly ran to the local police station to report what had happened. The police managed to arrest the worker along the Jagdeiweg.
