Parmessar must defend himself within 1 month

-

Natural Resources Minister Regillio Dodson recently pointed out that he, President Desi Bouterse and the board of supervisory directors at the Energy Company Suriname (EBS) will determine the fate of EBS director Rabin Parmessar. Parmessar reportedly has been given one month to prepare his defense. The director was recently suspended because of a number of issues at the company. Relations between Parmessar and the board went sour shortly after he was appointed director in January 2016. Sources told Times of Suriname that the decision to cut the power supply to the Diakonessenhuis and the slow process of getting the power back on at the hospital led to the suspension of the director. The director and the board reportedly did not see eye to eye with regards to a number of policy issues. “I will discuss this with the president and then we will see what will happen,” said Minister Dodson in response to the latest developments at the EBS. President Desi Bouterse last year assigned Parmessar to the EBS to restore order at the nation’s power company. The minister made it clear that the board no longer has any confidence in the current director. He explained that several things happened within the company but that he does not want to comment on them. “I think that those were serious issues,” said Minister Dodson.
