Vicious dogs attacked another woman

-

On the 22nd of March 53-year-old Irene Vermeer was attacked by the same vicious dog that had attacked 36-year-old Alicia Archer along the Sir Winston Churchillweg on March 21. Archer died at the hospital on Saturday. After Vermeer had received medical treatment at the hospital, she decided to return to Holland for further treatment. Vermeer reportedly left for Holland on March 23 and is receiving medical treatment at the Spaarne Hospital in Haarlem.

Vermeer who also lives along the Sir Winston Churchillweg has always gone jogging in the morning 3 times a week since 2009. But on that dreadful day she was attacked by 6 dogs that ran out of a yard. The stray dogs are reportedly being fed by the owner of the company that is located at that yard. The woman reportedly suffered lacerations on her legs, buttocks, shoulders and upper arm. A passersby who was riding a moped reportedly chased the dogs away.

The woman was rushed to the Emergency Room in an ambulance. Vermeer’s husband, Huibert Oskam, pointed out that his wife has been admitted to a Dutch hospital and that she will remain there fors ome time. “It is difficult to say how long it will take for her to recover from the attack,” said Oskam who was shocked by the news of Archer’s death. He pointed out that the owner of the dogs never contacted him to express concern or sympathy. The manager of the company that feeds the dogs deemed it awful that the dogs had attacked two women. “The dogs are stray dogs from the neighborhood and the company has taken care of them for the past 3 years. I visited Archer in the hospital on Friday and was saddened by the news of her death. We will also contact the family of Vermeer.

We consulted the police and a veterinarian before deciding to put the 2 wildest dogs down. The company will also try to cover the medical expenses of the victims. We feel responsible because we take care of the dogs. We have already placed a fence at the front of our property to keep the dogs off the street,” the manager told Times of Suriname.
