All state employees will receive SRD 500

-

Just like teachers all other state employees will receive a purchasing power boost as a result of the equality principle. At the end of April, May and June the state employees will receive an additional SRD 375. In July they will receive their vacation pay and at the end of each of the remaining months of the year they will receive an additional SRD 500. The unions and the government will discuss a raise in January 2018. These developments are the result of talks between the Office of the President and the labor union federations. The purchasing power boost will cost the government an additional SRD 15 million every month. The money needed to finance all of this will come from the government take of fuel tax. The government reportedly introduced a fuel price hike in April. Finance Minister Gillmore Hoefdraad announced on Friday that the agreement with the labor union federations will not have a negative impact on the exchange rate and inflation. The negotiations between the labor union federations and the government are scheduled to commence in January 2018. The Central of State Employees’ Organizations (CLO) has already announced that it wants a 111% raise. “We did things this way to show the nation and the government what the consequences are of giving this to the teachers,” said CLO deputy chairman Michael Miskin.
