Senior cops face possible charges

Two senior police ranks face possible charges for allegedly providing security for US-based suspect Marcus Bisram, who is wanted for the October 2016 murder of carpenter Faiyaz Narinedatt in Berbice.

A probe by the Office of Police Responsibility (OPR) revealed that one rank, identified as a Deputy Superintendent, provided the security, in the form of police ranks, to Bisram. The investigation reportedly also revealed that another policeman who is the rank superior, failed to ensure that the rank conformed to the Force’s regulations. The media understands that a file on the investigation was sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Police had launched investigations into reports that Bisram, a multi-millionaire, had feted a number of policemen, and that some may have colluded to cover up Narinedatt’s murder. Three individuals, including Bisram’s mother, were charged for allegedly offering a detective $4M to suppress evidence against Bisram, who is the head of a charitable organization, that has donated millions to some organizations in Berbice. A community policing group was one of the recipients. The battered body of 26-year-old carpenter Faiyaz Narinedatt was found on November 1, 2016, on the Number 70 Village, Corentyne foreshore. Harripaul Parsram, 49, Orlando Dickie, 39, Radesh Motie, 39, Diadath Datt, 18 and Niran Yacoob, 37, were charged for Narinedatt’s murder. Bisram’s name was also mentioned in the joint murder charge as the number one accused. The joint charge stated that he procured the others to murder Narinedatt. However, Bisram returned to the US prior to the discovery of Narinedatt’s body.
