Police build case against soldier in bread vendor’s murder

-

Investigators have managed to build a case against the 20-year-old soldier who was held for the murder of bread vendor, Andre Alexander two Fridays ago at ‘C’ Field Sophia, Georgetown.

Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum confirmed on sunday that the file would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice yesterday. It is unclear what information the police have on the rank, but reports are that he was arrested based on a tip off police in ‘A’ Division received. It is suspected that the soldier was the one towing the ‘trigger man’ at the time Alexander was gunned down. The trigger man has not yet been apprehended, but Blanhum said that diligent efforts are being made to find him. So far, the police are still looking for a key element in the bread vendor’s murder, and that is a CG motorcycle that was used by the suspects. Ranks are confident that the soldier is in possession of one such motorcycle, since traffic ranks at Turkeyen Police Station recalled that they had pulled him in on numerous occasions for riding the cycle without proper documentation. “One time he (soldier) said he didn’t have a bike and when the boys (ranks) tell he that they see he with a bike, he said it is his friend motorcycle, but we are not finding the bike or the person who owns it,” a detective said. Alexander was shot in the stomach by one of two gunmen on a motorcycle two Fridays ago during a robbery at ‘C’ Field Sophia, Georgetown. The GDF rank was arrested after the cops received a tip-off two Mondays ago. The description the police received of one of the gunmen matched that of the soldier.
